Hello Beautiful People,

As someone who recently became co-owner of a new business (in a totally different industry) while also working a corporate job, here are some tips I’ve been using to help me successfully run, build and grow these businesses while managing a full-time career.

By now you’ve probably noticed a theme in my content. It’s all about creating balance. When we create balance in our lives it’s less likely that we feel burned out. I previously shared an article about living a balanced life which you can read here.

Remember, balance isn’t something you find but something you create. So here’s how I’ve been creating more balance in my life as I step into these new roles.

  1. Prioritize

This is the biggest and most important step. With new businesses, everything can seem urgent at first. Don’t try to do it all at once and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

  1. Plan and Prep

My Google Calendar is my best friend and my life revolves around it. All my daily, weekly and even monthly non-negotiables are already set up as recurring tasks so I don’t forget them and it limits the amount of manual input needed.

  1. Create a Weekly Schedule

Going off #2, I have time blocks in my calendar for daily work. Each day I focus on a different aspect of my businesses. For example, Sundays are CEO Days where I plan for the future while Saturdays are for admin tasks and product creation. Having a weekly schedule helps me stay organized and know exactly what to focus on.

  1. Be Flexible

You don’t have to stick to a strict schedule. Life happens. Things don’t always go according to plan so leave room for error and be ready to pivot. By giving yourself this buffer, if something goes wrong you can adjust and fix it without unnecessary stress or worry.

  1. Take Breaks

Taking breaks and time to breathe is essential. Even though I have a schedule, sometimes on Saturdays if I need a rest from my computer I’ll go on the road with my business partner to visit customers and work on jobs. While that business isn’t my area of expertise I still enjoy tagging along to learn something new.

  1. Know Your Limits

On days when you don’t have the energy to give 100%, do what you can. On days when you have more energy, take advantage of it and work a little longer. For example, as I’m writing this it’s after 10pm on a Friday night. Normally I’d be in bed by now since my night routine runs from 9 to 10pm. But since I’m on vacation from my corporate job today was a relaxed day. I spent the morning writing newsletters and in the afternoon my business partner (who is also my significant other) and I were on the road collecting parts and visiting customers. He did all the driving and I fully embraced my role as the Passenger Princess. Because today was a light day I have the energy to stay up a bit later and get more done tonight.

So there you have it, a few things I’ve been doing to create better balance and make space for my new roles.

Thank you for reading and enjoy the rest of your week my friend!

Until my next email,

xx Emily 🫰
