For my first official order of business, I would like to talk to you about the importance of Self-Care; not Self-Pampering. What is the difference you may ask? Well let me put it this way, Self-Pampering is taking care of your physical self, e.g. facials, working out, etc. while Self-Care focuses more on the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of your life.
Each person will have a different version of what Self-Care is to them based on their lifestyle. But no matter your version of Self-Care it is important!
I’m not taking away anything from Self-Pampering, I do enjoy a nice relaxing day at the spa, however, if we just focus on our physical self it is likely possible that we will feel burned out and stressed faster. Trust me, I’m talking from personal experience.
Having a Self-Care Routine and regularly practicing Self-Care will benefit you and the others around you. You know that saying “You can’t pour from an empty cup” … It is very true. So by focusing on yourself, you will better be able to focus on your family, friends and work. I always like to tell myself I’m doing things that will cause my cup to overflow, so it won’t take away from me and I’d still be able to give to others. Always remember “Self-Care ISN’T selfish!”
Would your Self-Care Routine be considered Self-Care or Self-Pampering?
Did you know that there are seven pillars of Self-Care? If you didn’t, lemme break it down for you:
Mental Self-Care
Emotional Self-Care
Physical Self-Care (the most common)
Environmental Self-Care
Spiritual Self-Care
Recreational Self-Care
Social Self-Care
In another chapter of Self-Care Chronicles, I will go in-depth on the different pillars of Self-Care but for now, thank you for reading and enjoy the rest of your week my friend!
